Bakhmut is today the hottest point in the theater of operations, where the most fierce battles take place. According to Colonel-General Alexander Syrsky, the battles for Bakhmut today have reached the highest level of tension.
His words were explained on the air of the telethon by the speaker of the Eastern Group of Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Sergey Cherevaty, writes Channel 24 .
The enemy sent the best units to capture Bakhmut
Sergei Cherevaty stressed that the words of the colonel-general mean that the occupiers sent their best units into battle to capture the fortress city. It is in Bakhmut that the invaders concentrate their artillery fire to the maximum.
So, in the last 24 hours alone, on March 6, in the Bakhmut direction, the Russians launched about 130 strikes from various artillery systems and multiple launch rocket systems on Ukrainian positions. According to him, the fighting took place in the areas:
- Zheleznyansky,
- Dubovo-Vasilovka,
- Orekhovo-Vasilovka,
- Ivankovsky,
- and, of course, in Bakhmut itself.

Bakhmut is such a bifurcation point of this war, he has already become symbolic from many points of view. And for us it is an absolute symbol of our struggle, resilience, heroism, steadfastness and invincibility,” Sergey Cherevaty emphasized.
At the same time, for the Russians, the Ukrainian city became the destruction of the myth about the “second army of the world”, as well as about “PVK as some kind of invincible campaign that fights from Syria to Africa and wins.” The inability of the invaders to capture Bakhmut for more than 7 months, achieve strategic success, break through the Ukrainian defense systems and cause irreparable damage to it, according to Cherevaty, also breaks the morale of the Russian troops.
So, thanks to the stable defense of the city, the Armed Forces of Ukraine knock out the potential of the enemy. By doing this, they also “facilitate the work of their brothers, who are now intensively preparing, undergoing combat training, in particular, on new systems of equipment and weapons, in order to later throw the enemy out of our land forever.”
The defense of Bakhmut continues: the decision of the command
- On March 6, President Volodymyr Zelensky held the Headquarters of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief. It discussed the situation in the main directions of the front, in particular, Bakhmut.
- At Headquarters, the command decided to continue the defense of the city.
- Despite the fact that the enemy continues to attempt to encircle and capture Bakhmut, the General Staff notes that these attempts are futile. The city is still under the control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and the Ukrainian military has not left it.
