On July 30, the NPO Avtomatika plant caught fire in the center of Yekaterinburg, Russia. After Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, it ended up under US sanctions.

The fire engulfed the roof of the chemical production workshop. In total, the fire spread over an area of ​​at least 1,000 square meters, reports 24 Channel.

As a result of the fire, the roof and walls of the chemical production workshop collapsed. The fire reached inside and spread to another workshop. City residents are asked not to go outside and not to open windows.

It is also known that welding work was being carried out in the workshop, and therefore oxygen cylinders may be on site. At the same time, Russian media say that 22 people were allegedly evacuated from the burning plant.

Let's add that “NPO Avtomatiki” was created back in 1941. It is now a subsidiary of Roscosmos.

This is one of the largest enterprises in Russia, where they develop and manufacture control systems and electronic equipment for rocket and space technology and other industries. Its main products now are control systems for sea- and silo-based intercontinental ballistic missiles.

According to Russian media, in recent years of the plant's operation, it allegedly provided 94 launches of the Soyuz-2 launch vehicle, created and implemented a control system for manned rockets, and developed a high-frequency automobile radar at 77 gigahertz.

However, it seems that after the start of Russia's armed aggression against Ukraine and the introduction of sanctions, the plant began to have problems. In February 2024, hotels were put up for sale there, the proceeds from which were planned to be transferred to “improving the financial condition of enterprises.”
