AFU entered Opytnoye, but it’s too early to talk about full control — Barabash

The armed forces of Ukraine entered the village of Opytnoye in the Donetsk region, but it is still difficult to talk about any kind of control, because the enemy is trying to recapture lost positions.

The chairman of the Avdiivka city reported this on Radio Liberty military administration Vitaly Barabash.

He recalled that Opytne is part of the Avdeevka territorial community, it was occupied about a year ago.

Now they are watching

– It is not yet known what is happening in the village itself. We have information that there are still civilians there, civilians. There should be approximately five or six more people who remain there. We must speak very carefully about successes in this area. Indeed, ours have arrived. But it is still difficult to talk about any kind of control. Fighting is underway. The enemy is trying to recapture the lost positions, but so far has had no success,” Barabash said.

Also, the head of the military administration said that the Russian occupiers are constantly strengthening their presence there, pulling reserves into Donetsk. There is a lot of equipment and personnel around the city. And the village of Opytnoye itself has been smashed to pieces.

– It has been broken since 2014. Before the start of a full-scale war, we tried to restore it, repairing the roofs. At the beginning of a full-scale war, 44 people remained in Opytny, said Barabash.

He noted that from the outer streets of Opytny to the runway of Donetsk airport is a little more than a kilometer. He said that the enemy had seriously dug in near Donetsk, which is located 5 kilometers from Opytnoye.

Recall that Deputy Defense Minister Anna Malyar reported that the Defense Forces had liberated part of the village of Opytnoye near Avdeevka, Donetsk region.
