Ukraine is asking Western countries to supply F-16 fighter jets. Some world leaders have said they are ready to provide combat aircraft to our military. With such weapons, the Armed Forces of Ukraine will be able to dominate the Ukrainian airspace, and there will be fewer losses among our military.
The head of the Center for Military Legal Research said this on the air on Channel 24 Alexander Musienko. According to him, everyone expects that during the visit of US President Joe Biden, they will announce the provision of F-16 aircraft to Ukraine.
Ukraine will dominate its skies
Musienko noted that F-16 combat aircraft are extremely important for Ukraine. When the Armed Forces of Ukraine receive them, they will be able to dominate the Ukrainian sky, including the territories temporarily occupied by Russia.
“We have HARM anti-radar missiles that can carry enemy radars, Excalibur high-precision projectiles and HIMARS systems that can be used to destroy anti-aircraft guns -missile systems in the occupied territories,” he said.
The head of the Center for Military Legal Studies noted that F-16 fighters can have long-range missiles, so flying over places where Russian troops are concentrated will not be necessary.
This will lead to the fact that more enemy positions, artillery systems, heavy equipment, manpower will be destroyed. There will be less damage from our side. Therefore, the decision on these aircraft is very important,” Musienko stressed.

The process of transferring F-16 aircraft has accelerated
According to Alexander Musienko, we can soon expect positive news about the transfer of F-16 fighters to Ukraine. He is convinced that the process has accelerated.
The head of the Center for Military Legal Studies recalled that on Friday, February 17, Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mark Rutte arrived on a visit to Kiev. One of the high-profile topics of the meeting was the transfer of aircraft.
“It was to the Netherlands that Ukraine applied with the first application for the transfer of F-16 aircraft. The Netherlands volunteered to finance this. They declared their support. This is one of the first countries in Western Europe that said it was ready to consider the possibility,” Musienko said.
In his opinion, during Joe Biden's two-day visit to Poland, they will announce the provision of F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine.I think that there will be a decision to provide aircraft. Last summer, the US Congress allocated $100 million to train Ukrainian pilots. Such actions are not taken lightly. In the US, taxpayers' money is counted. Therefore, it is obvious that certain solutions were considered even then, Musienko is convinced.
Characteristics and history of the F-16
- F-16 fighter jets are in service with 24 countries around the world. As of 2009, 4,400 of these aircraft have been built. In 2016, 2,500 Fighting Felcons were in service. Fighters are no longer built for the US Air Force, but they are made for export. The F-16 aircraft began to enter service with the US Air Force in 1978.
- The F-16 is a mid-wing monoplane with an engine in the rear fuselage. The semi-monocoque fuselage is all-metal with a single tail tail.
- Smooth pairing of the wing and fuselage allows the fuselage to create additional lift at high angles of attack. The structure is 78.3% aluminum alloy, 4.2% titanium alloy, 4.2% carbon fiber and 3.7% steel.
- To ensure ease of operation, the aircraft has 228 hatches and removable panels. The engine has a fuselage air intake.
- The cabin is equipped with a regenerative air conditioning and pressurization system. The McDonnell-Douglas ACESII ejection seat ensures the escape of the aircraft in the parking lot and in flight at a speed of 1,100 kilometers per hour at altitudes up to 15,000 meters. The aircraft control system is electrically remote with quadruple redundancy.
