Former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and Ambassador of Ukraine to the UK Valeriy Zaluzhny believes that technological progress today creates new conditions for waging a war of attrition.
He shared his thoughts on modern defense prospects during an international seminar to which he was invited by the Royal Netherlands Army and the Bundeswehr.
Zaluzhny on defense prospects
The Ambassador believes that technological development makes it possible to conduct effective offensive operations, and also changes the nature of war in general.

– The revolution of military technologies based on unmanned systems and artificial intelligence will most likely be aimed at destroying strategic military and civilian infrastructure throughout the country, – said Zaluzhny.
In his opinion, the technological revolution creates conditions for a war of attrition. In such conditions, war turns into a struggle for resources and endurance, and successful defense depends on the country's ability to remain resilient in the face of constant attacks.
– So, this conclusion makes it possible to understand the main and probably the only strategy for victory in the future – the formation of a system of the country's resilience, – the Ukrainian Ambassador to Britain pointed out.
Valeriy Zaluzhny noted that Ukraine has already managed to gain unique experience in the conditions of modern warfare, and it is valuable for allies, because it will help to understand what “defense will be in the near future”.
