Russia reduces gas transportation via Nord Stream by as much as 40%/AP

Russian Gazprom” limited gas supplies through Nord Stream by 40%. They reported technical problems at the Baltic station.

Now Gazprom can transport only 100 million cubic meters of gas per day. Usually there were 167 million people.

Supposedly, they didn’t manage to complete the repairs in time

In Russia, they announced that “Siemens did not carry out repairs on time”. Like, the company was not able to return the gas pumping units taken for repair in time. In addition, technical malfunctions of the engines were revealed.

Consequently, only 3 gas compressor units can be used at the Portovaya compressor station. This led to a reduction in transportation volumes.

Pay attention! Nord Stream 1 has been transporting gas from Russia to Germany since 2011. It passes through the Baltic Sea. The gas pipeline's capacity is 55 billion cubic meters per year, and the total length reaches 1,224 kilometers.

Ukraine called on Germany to stop Nord Stream 1

  • At the end of May, Sergey Makogon, General Director of GTS Operator of Ukraine LLC, said that Ukraine requires either a complete halt or at least a sharp reduction in gas transportation by Nord Stream-1.
  • According to Makogon, GTS Operator Ukraine”, as well as “Neftegaz” have already sent a letter to the German Ministry of Economics with a corresponding appeal. Kyiv also offered Berlin a certain alternative.
  • Alexander Kraev, an expert at the Ukrainian Prism Foreign Policy Council, assessed whether Germany could abandon Nord Stream 1. He says there is a chance. According to him, due to the adoption of a new “green agreement” in Europe, the question will arise whether Nord Stream-1 and other energy projects with the Russians “fit in” there.
  • The European Parliament has already announced about finding an opportunity to stop the operation of the gas pipeline.

And what about Nord Stream 2

After Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the construction of Nord Stream 2 was stopped. The corresponding decision was made by Germany. Therefore, this made it impossible for the aggressor states to get even more revenue from gas.
