Take No Prisoners and Shoot: Confession of an Occupier Captured in Sumy Region

Ukrainian military personnel have released a video of the interrogation of a Russian serviceman captured in Sumy Oblast, where he confessed to criminal orders from his superiors and heavy losses in the Russian army.

The corresponding video was published by the Ukrainian Airborne Assault Forces on their Telegram channel.

Interview with an occupier: what a Russian prisoner said

The prisoner introduced himself as 30-year-old Ilya Taltayev from the Kemerovo region. Before the war, he worked at the Irkutsk Aviation Plant.

Taltayev served as a private in the 2nd assault company of the 106th airborne division of the 51st regiment.

According to the Russian, he joined the occupation army for ideological reasons and was immediately wounded.

— On the first day, I was wounded in a shootout, then sat in a dugout on the radio. There were 4 people in our group, but one died almost immediately… There were many losses due to mortars and FPV drones, — Taltayev said.

The prisoner also revealed criminal orders from the Russian command.

— I will tell you honestly: there was an order not to take prisoners and to shoot. I do not support this. You cannot shoot at those who surrendered, — said the Russian military man.

Taltayev said that the command explained this by saying that the prisoners needed food and water, which the Russian military themselves lacked.

In addition, when the Russian command learned that a Russian soldier had been captured, they gave the order to find him and kill him.

In a mission during which a soldier was captured, about 60% of Russian soldiers usually returned, but this time almost all of them died.

“This time almost the entire company died. I know that one wounded man was captured, he said that no one else came out of there,” said the occupier.

The prisoner admitted that Russian propaganda on television tells how Ukrainians take Russian soldiers prisoner and abuse them.

But he personally did not encounter this and described the attitude of Ukrainian soldiers as “quite friendly in such a situation.”

“This is a cruel war. It spares neither Russians nor Ukrainians,” Tatlaev said, adding that he sometimes did not vote for Putin and always supported Prigozhin's activities.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces reported that Ukrainian soldiers provided medical assistance to the wounded occupier after he was captured.
