“Take everything, down to the penny”: how to confiscate Russian assets in favor of Ukraine

by alex

Western countries continue to discuss the issue of confiscation of Russian assets in favor of Ukraine. And it is quite possible to do this.

The manager told Channel 24 about this Center for Public Analytics “Vezha” Valery Klochok, emphasizing that this should be a punishment for Russia for its aggression against Ukraine.

How Russian assets can be confiscated

Klochok noted that the G7 countries are already changing their position in this regard. Therefore, the complex processes currently taking place in the European Union and directly in the US Congress are playing into our hands, forcing European officials to think about how to punish Russia for its crimes.

Because allocating money is not a punishment, it is support for our defense capability,” said the head of the Vezha Center for Public Analytics.

As for the legal mechanism for confiscation of assets , then, according to him, this decision should be made at the level of each country separately based on the recommendations of the European Union.

It must be taken from Russia all the money

The head of the Vezha Center for Public Analytics noted that there are a lot of battles going on around the legal component. However, for example, the European Commission can put more persistent pressure on the governments of countries where there are Russian assets, so as not only to transfer the income from these assets to Ukraine.

“All the money should be withdrawn – every penny,” Klochok emphasized.

In his opinion, then they should be transferred to a trust fund, which will be managed by the EU and from which Ukraine will be provided military and humanitarian assistance. These funds should be used to restore our country, pay the families of the dead, military personnel for treatment, and maintain their social status.

Then, according to Klochka, Russia will understand that it has been punished . Otherwise, there will be impunity, which will give rise in the future to new primitive statements by Vladimir Putin.

He added that now we must understand that we have a chance – we need to “break” Europe. If we do this, it will be an incredible success.

Sanctions against Russia: what is known

  • Meanwhile, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico called for the lifting of sanctions against Slovak businessman and biker Josef Hambalka. The latter maintains ties with the Russian motorcycle club “Night Wolves”, for which he came under restrictions.
  • At the end of November, the US Congress proposed a bill to seize the assets of sanctioned Russian oligarchs. Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmygal emphasized that this document will allow for the faster confiscation of Russian assets.
