The possibility of the use of nuclear weapons by Russia continues to remain quite high, since Vladimir Putin from time to time resorts to threats to use these weapons.

At the same time, the intimidation of the head of the Kremlin is probably unfounded. This opinion was expressed to Channel 24 by a military expert, reserve colonel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and instructor pilot Roman Svitan, adding that Putin perfectly understands what consequences the implementation of a nuclear threat will have for him personally.

It's scary to even touch

In addition, Russians are afraid to even touch old nuclear warheads. In the 12th GUMO (main directorate of the Russian Ministry of Defense – 24 Channel), which is responsible for the nuclear arsenal, they understand very well which weapons can be touched and which it is better not to approach.

It is the tactical nuclear charges that are in very poor condition. Those for submarines, for some strategic missiles, are more or less under control. And the Russians are even afraid to touch the rest of the deep-lying nuclear weapons,” explained a reserve colonel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The condition is pathetic

At one time, the United States helped the Russians create mechanisms for maintaining the microclimate in nuclear storage facilities. It provided for the assembly, refurbishment, and restoration of nuclear weapons. The Russians had to do this, and funds were allocated for this. However, the money, as usual, went into their pockets.

The state of Russia’s nuclear arsenal is deplorable, and therefore the Russians, even out of fear of touching nuclear weapons at all, are unlikely to use them, the military expert noted.

Also, the reaction of the world community to the use of nuclear weapons by Russia will be very harsh.

“After the negotiations between Joseph Biden and Xi Jinping, who discussed, in particular, issues of nuclear security, the topic of nuclear power will not be raised, at least in the context of its practical application,” Roman Svitan noted.

More on Russia's Nuclear Threats

  • Putin and his circle regularly resort to nuclear blackmail. Thus, Secretary of the Russian Security Council Nikolai Patrushev emphasized on November 4 that Moscow allegedly owns a large amount for the first time in history. nuclear missiles than the countries with which Russia “competes.” According to Patrushev, the possession of hypersonic missiles has secured the country for “a decade.”
  • Russia also allegedly carried out a successful test launch of the Bulava missile, which carries nuclear weapons. The launch took place from the new nuclear-powered strategic missile submarine “Emperor Alexander the Third”.
  • At the same time, the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense reported that the day before, on October 25, the launch of the RSM-56 Bulava ballistic missile from the Borei submarine missile cruiser was unsuccessful. The test of the RS-24 Yars intercontinental ballistic missile, also a carrier of nuclear weapons, also failed. The rocket, which was launched on November 1, went off course.
