BMPT “Viper”

Russian specialists from the Kantemirovskaya and Taman divisions have restored more than 20 unique samples of Russian-made armored vehicles for the armored museum in Kubinka near Moscow. This was reported by “RG: Russian Weapons” with reference to the press service of the Western Military District (ZVO).

As specified in the press service, we are talking, in particular, about the modification of the T-80 tank, equipped with a smooth-bore supergun with 152 mm caliber and also known as the “Object 292”. Work on this version of the combat vehicle was carried out in the early 1990s in the Leningrad region, but was later curtailed due to lack of funding. Now, as expected, a similar gun will appear in one of the modifications of the T-14 Armata tank.

Also, the repairmen managed to bring back to life a sample of the tank support combat vehicle (BMPT) “Viper”, also known as “Object 787”. It was developed in Chelyabinsk about 25 years ago. The Viper was built on the basis of the T-72AV with Kontakt-1 reactive armor. At the same time, the designers dismantled the 125-mm cannon and instead equipped the BMPT with two 30-mm rapid-fire automatic cannons on the sides of the tower, as well as installations for the use of unguided aircraft missiles.

The press service of the Western Military District noted that the restored “Viper” had already been presented to the public during the celebration of the Tankman's Day in the 4th Guards Kantemirovskaya Division of the Guards Tank Army of the Okrug.
