Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrsky explained why new brigades have to be created instead of replenishing those that already exist with personnel and weapons.
The serviceman spoke about this on the air of the United News telethon.
Syrsky explained why new brigades are being created
Syrsky noted that during his tenure as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, a decision was made to create only two brigades, and these are, in fact, only the organizational cores of these brigades.

According to him, all other decisions on the creation of brigades were made earlier.
At the same time, he explained that when there were battles for Avdiivka, in fact all reserves and brigades were on the line of combat contact, and when the enemy began the Kharkov offensive, and then the Armed Forces of Ukraine – the Kursk operation, 255 km of the active front were added.
— How can the brigades that were on the front line close another 255 km? On the other hand, there was also the issue of rotation of brigades, withdrawal to restore combat capability. How to carry out (rotation, — Ed.), if you have no reserve, no brigade, — said Syrsky.
At the same time, he said that there are examples when new brigades, which were created literally last year, show successful results.
According to him, there is only a problem with trained commanders who would lead these brigades and carry out the process of adaptation to combat conditions.
— Of course, the process of adaptation of a new brigade itself is a complex process. Why is it a complex process? Because we now have so many brigades that, in principle, there is a problem with trained commanders who can lead this brigade. Well, the brigade itself must acquire combat traditions. Of course, this is not an easy task. After all, we need a team that is mentally prepared and united for difficult actions, — said Syrsky.
The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine noted that all brigades went through a certain period of adaptation.
— We need to stand firm, hold on, and then they show results no worse than the old brigades, — added the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Syrsky also recalled that at the beginning of the full-scale war in Ukraine there were about 12 brigades.
— Then their numbers constantly increased. Of course, there is no need to create many of them. The General Staff has calculated how many brigades and units are needed for a successful defense and offensive operations, — summed up Alexander Syrsky.
