– We live in a troubled world with many crises. In many places, including Ukraine, Sudan, Gaza and Yemen, human suffering is enormous. The situation in many countries has been made even worse by the US decision to stop some of its aid, the Swedish government notes.

Sweden is allocating SEK 1.67 billion for 2025 to support Ukraine and life-saving measures around the world. It is noted that Sweden cannot compensate for the reduction in aid from the United States, but wants to do everything to support Ukraine.

Minister for Aid and Foreign Trade Benjamin Dausa stressed that Sweden is ending its development assistance to Afghanistan, but will continue humanitarian aid, as the situation of women and girls in Afghanistan is of great concern to the Swedish government.

Further support for Ukraine

According to Benjamin Dawes, aid to Ukraine is vital for Europe, and therefore Ukraine is a top priority for Sweden.

“In order to confront Russia, which does not hesitate to shell playgrounds, hospitals, schools and homes, increased support is needed. Ukraine is fighting not only for its freedom, but also for the freedom of Europe,” concluded Minister Benjamin Dawes.
