The Swedish government clarified that as part of the largest aid package, the transfer of which Stockholm announced on May 29, Ukraine will receive two ASC 890 radar reconnaissance and control aircraft.

This was clarified by the representative of the Swedish Prime Minister Tom Samuelsson on the social network X.

— The package includes two airborne surveillance and control aircraft (ACS 890) that will help Ukraine detect targets at long range, — he wrote, recalling that the value of the package is €1.16 billion.

The official also published a photo in which Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson demonstrates the plane to the Ukrainian ambassador to the Scandinavian country Andrei Plahotniuc.

How Ukraine will protect planes from the Russians

A representative of the Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Ilya Yevlash said in a comment to Liga.net that the military understands that such an aircraft will be one of the priority targets of the invaders.

— Of course, we have experience on how to protect such equipment, — he said.

Evlash urged not to rush into such discussions, because ASC 890 aircraft, like F-16 fighters, will only be sent to Ukraine.

He noted that when they arrive, then “we will look at the nature of the hostilities to see how it will be possible to protect the aircraft”

May 29 Sweden announced its 16th aid package, the largest since the start of the full-scale war. In addition to the ASC 890 aircraft, Stockholm will transfer to Kyiv its entire fleet of Pbv 302 armored personnel carriers, Rb 99 (AMRAAM) missiles, artillery ammunition and the like.
