Belgium began its presidency of the European Union on January 5, where it has already declared support for Ukraine, strengthening democracy and economic development as a priority.
The Prime Minister of Belgium stated this Alexandra de Croo.
In addition, according to him, Belgium’s immediate task during its presidency will be to agree on a financial assistance plan for Ukraine from 2024 to 2027 in the amount of €50 billion at the EU summit on February 1.

In addition, the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen called financial assistance to Ukraine “the most strategic” of the priorities of the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the EU.
— Following the historic decision to begin negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU, we must urgently move forward to stabilize our financial assistance to this country, — said von der Leyen.
According to her, the European Commission will propose to the European Council “operational decisions”, which will ensure that consensus is reached on the fund for Ukraine within the framework of the updated EU budget for 2024-2027.< /p>
We recall that during the December summit of the European Council, the leaders of the EU countries failed, due to Hungary’s position, to approve amendments to the EU budget for 2024-2027, providing for €50 billion.
