The Russian Defense Ministry claims that the fighter was conducting a “training flight,” but when attempting to land the plane, the system for releasing one of the landing gear legs failed.
“The crew tried to repair it in flight, but to no avail. On the command of the flight director, the pilots took the plane to a safe zone and ejected,” the statement emphasized.
According to published reports, both crew members survived and the plane “crashed in an uninhabited area, leaving no damage on the ground.”
Initially, Russian media reported on the Su-27 fighter, but later the Russian Ministry of Defense clarified that it was the Su-34.
The Mash publication writes that the plane crashed in the Kulebaki area. At first, they were able to find only one of the pilots who ejected, the search for the second one continued.
Earlier, the SBU and the Ukrainian Armed Forces Special Operations Forces destroyed two Russian Su-34 aircraft, and two more were damaged.
