NATO Secretary General reacted to the statements of the Pope of Rome that Russia's aggression in Ukraine seemed to have been “provoked”. Jens Stoltenberg said that this is exclusively a war of President Vladimir Putin.

This was stated by the Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance during a meeting of defense ministers in Brussels – Ramstein-3. He noted that NATO is providing military assistance to Ukraine in order to exercise its right to self-defense.

Stoltenberg condemned the war waged by Russia against Ukraine

Jens Stoltenberg condemned the war of attrition that Russia is waging against Ukraine. NATO will offer Kyiv unprecedented support so that Ukrainians can defend themselves against aggression.

Moreover, according to Stoltenberg, the war that Russia started is “a game changer”, so the Alliance intends to deploy more sea and air forces, as well as cyber defense forces.

Putin is to blame for Russia's war against Ukraine, – NATO Secretary General

NATO is a defense alliance, and the war in Ukraine is President Putin's war. What NATO has been doing for many years is supporting an independent sovereign nation. It doesn't threaten anyone. This is not a provocation,” Stoltenberg explained.

He noted that President Vladimir Putin is responsible for Russia’s aggression.

Recently, the pontiff called the war possibly “provoked”

It should be noted that the Pope recently condemned Russia's aggression against Ukraine. At the same time, Francis noted that, perhaps, this war was “provoked” or “not warned.”

The Pontifex for some reason said that the Russians were sending forward “mercenary troops” who committed terrible crimes. Francis believes that while everyone is watching the horrors of war, attention is being diverted from many important things, such as arms sales.

Jens Stoltenberg's statements about the Russian war in Ukraine

  • Jens Stoltenberg emphasized that NATO is preparing Ukraine's transition from Soviet-style weapons to the armament of the Alliance. Ukraine has already received a billion dollars worth of weapons from partners.
  • The Alliance will consider a new package of military assistance at the NATO summit in Madrid at the end of June.
  • Earlier, Stoltenberg spoke about the price of peace that Ukraine is ready to pay. The event should do everything to prevent Ukraine from making territorial concessions.
