Head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Igor Klimenko revealed the details of the attack on police officers in the Vinnytsia region and named the probable motives of the servicemen who were transporting weapons in the trunk of a car.
Motives of the attackers on patrol officers: what is known
— Today a preventive measure will be chosen. The motive will be established by the investigation. At the same time, we understand that they were actually transporting ammunition and grenades. They have already indicated where the grenades thrown into the reservoir are located in boxes. Now forensic scientists, investigators and divers are working on the site, — he explained on the air of the One News telethon.
Also, according to him, the gun used to shoot the policeman has already been found — the murder weapon will be included in the criminal proceedings.
What condition is the wounded policeman in
Regarding the condition of the partner of the killed patrolman, the Minister of Internal Affairs assured that his life is not in danger.

— The condition is moderately serious, but currently stable. Half an hour ago we talked with doctors, they give positive prognoses, — said Klimenko.
Assessment of the actions of the police who stopped the attackers' car
The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs said that these two police officers carried out their functional duties of patrolling and responding at night, and were driving from a call to 102, taking a detained domestic rapist into the car.
— But we understand that 02:00 — This is a curfew that also applies in the Vinnytsia region. The police saw the suspects violating traffic rules and stopped the car, according to the instructions, — he emphasized.
In his opinion, the checkpoints are working effectively, and there is no need to strengthen them yet, but it is worth reviewing the instructions on the response and actions of police in such cases.
— When we communicate with citizens, it doesn’t matter, I want to emphasize what kind of citizens they are — either the military, or the police, law enforcement officers, a citizen who breaks the law must be held accountable, — noted Klimenko.
At the same time, he admitted that even among these citizens there are people who, unfortunately, break the law.
— And here we must speak clearly and differentiate between violations of the law. As for the operation of checkpoints and the seizure of weapons, in 2023 alone we seized about 5.5 thousand firearms. This case shows that whatever the motive of these citizens, they broke the law and must answer, — the minister summed up.
Desertion with weapons
The State Bureau of Investigation reported today that two attackers on police officers in the Vinnytsia region, who killed a 20-year-old patrolman and wounded his colleague, are also charged with desertion with weapons by prior conspiracy by a group of persons, committed under martial law (h 4 Art. 408 UKU).
Information about their theft of explosives and weapons from a unit of their military unit is also being verified.
According to the investigation, father and son left a military unit in the Odessa region without permission on April 19, taking a service pistol assigned to one of them.
