State Bureau of Investigation Detains Justice Ministry Official on Suspicion of Fraud

The State Bureau of Investigation detained a Justice Ministry employee and her accomplice who attempted to fraudulently seize funds from a large agricultural enterprise.

This was reported by the press center of the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) on August 2.

According to investigators, the suspect promised a representative of a regional budget-forming enterprise to enter information about the right to use agricultural land into the real estate register for $120,000.

In addition, the Justice Ministry official recruited an acquaintance, a citizen of another state, who called himself an “influential official” of the same Ministry and was supposed to act as a guarantor of the fulfillment of promises.

Already on August 1 of this year, the accomplices received the first tranche in the amount of $30 thousand and reported that in order to positively resolve the issue, the applicant had two days to transfer the remaining funds.

In parallel with this, the official boasted of influential acquaintances with the heads of law enforcement agencies.

After receiving the funds, both businessmen were detained, and the defendants were announced as suspects in an attempt to seize someone else's property by prior conspiracy by a group of persons, under martial law in especially large amounts (Part 2 of Article 15, Part 5 of Article 190) of the Criminal Code Ukraine.

The punishment provided for by the articles is up to 12 years of imprisonment.

A petition was filed with the court to choose a preventive measure in the form of detention with the alternative of posting bail in the equivalent of $60 thousand for each.
