Investigators of the State Bureau of Investigation are investigating illegal customs clearance of cars at Lviv customs at a zero rate after the abolition of preferential treatment. One of the suspects has already been searched.
And although the State Bureau of Investigation does not officially announce who is the defendant in the case, ZAXID.NET writes that the search was carried out in the apartment of the former head of the Lviv customs, 33-year-old Daniil Menshikov .
The publication reports that the search took place as part of a criminal case on Tuesday, August 13. Investigators of the State Bureau of Investigation visited the place of residence of Daniil Menshikov, as well as several other officials of the Lviv customs in the case of fraud during the registration of cars.
During the searches, the following were seized:
- copies of documents and draft notes,
- mobile phones and cash.
Help. Daniil Menshikov served as acting director. Head of Lviv Customs since December 2021. In August 2022, he was replaced by Oleg Shakhrai.
The State Bureau of Investigation noted that they opened criminal proceedings against officials of the Lviv customs who illegally cars imported from abroad were exempted from customs payments.
The fact is that from July 1, 2022, the Verkhovna Rada canceled its decision to exempt vehicles imported from customs from customs duties, however employees of one of the customs posts of the Lviv customs “didn't notice” this. According to operational data, they cleared imported cars at a zero rate for almost a week in July.
How much customs officers earned
Under this scheme, interested parties managed to import more than 60 vehicles to Ukraine without paying duties, because of which millions of hryvnias of customs payments did not enter the budget. The total amount of the damage caused is being determined.
What punishment will be given to the perpetrators
Investigators of the State Bureau of Investigation opened criminal proceedings on the facts of abuse of power and forgery. The sanctions of the articles provide for punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to 6 years.
