Speed will be decisive: Holyfield gave advice to Usyk for the fight with Fury

by alex

Boxing legend and former world champion in two weight categories Evander Holyfield believes that Ukrainian Alexander Usik has a good chance to become the undisputed world champion in the heavyweight division.

At one time, Usik, like Holyfield, became the absolute world champion in cruiserweight and moved up to the heavyweight category. The American also owned three (then absolute) heavyweight championship belts.

According to the legendary boxer, the winner of the Usyk-Fury fight will be the one who can withstand the pressure from his opponent. The Briton has the advantage of size, while Usyk has the advantage of speed.

“This should be a big fight and hand speed will be critical.” Who can land more hits? “Usyk has a lot of advantages and he’s left-handed,” Holyfield said in an interview with the WBC.

He noted that Fury has been successful many times before and styles are what decide fights. But when a boxer who fights with a larger opponent is faster and can deliver strong blows, he can win.

“But if he misses, it could be the end.” Life is about not giving up. I sincerely believe that Usyk has exactly this mentality.

What is known about the Usyk-Fury fight

The fight between Usik and Fury for the title of absolute world heavyweight champion became known at the end of September. The fight was expected to take place on December 23, 2023, but due to the cut the Briton received in a fight with Francis Ngannou, the fight was postponed. It was noted that Fury would not have time to recover for the fight in December.

At stake in the Usyk-Fury fight will be the WBA, WBO, WBC and IBF belts, as well as the secondary IBO and The Ring titles owned by Usyk.

If one of the boxers activates the rematch option, then the IBF belt will probably not be up for grabs, because after the first fight its owner will be required to fight with challenger Filip Hrgovic from Croatia.
