The Israel Defense Forces reported the death of two soldiers who participated in the fighting against Hamas in the Gaza Strip. One of the dead was Senior Sergeant Gal Meir Eizenkot, 25, the son of the former head of the IDF.

The other dead was 34-year-old Jonathan David Deitch . As of Friday, December 8, Tel Aviv admitted that the total number of casualties as a result of hostilities was 89 fighters.

Actually, Eizenkot died in the north of the Gaza Strip during the battle, and Deitch died during a clash in the south. It is also reported that three other servicemen were seriously injured – they were hospitalized.

Gal Eizenkot passed away after a bomb exploded in a tunnel shaft near soldiers in the Jabaliya camp in northern Gaza. He was taken in serious condition to a hospital in Israel, where he died from his injuries. He will be buried on December 8 in Herzliya, writes The Times of Israel.

Politicians from different Israeli parties expressed their condolences to the family of the fallen soldier.

A new phase of the Israeli-Palestinian war began on October 7, 2023, when Hamas fired thousands of rockets according to Israel. Then Tel Aviv announced the start of an operation against the terrorist group.

As of December 4, it was known that 15,000 people were likely killed during the operation in the Gaza Strip , of which 5,000 are Hamas members. Also on that day, the IDF announced the expansion of its ground operations throughout the Gaza Strip.
