The good news was announced by the Minister of Defense of Slovakia Jaroslav Nagy. He stressed that these are only the first 4 Zuzana self-propelled guns.
“They (artillery mounts – Channel 24) are ready for use and defense against Russian aggressors,” Nagy said.
In June he stated that Slovakia and Ukraine had agreed to supply 8 Zuzana 2 artillery mounts.
What is known about Zuzana 2
- The Zuzana 2 self-propelled guns are an upgrade of the previous version of the Zuzana in 155 mm caliber. In 2018, the Slovak army purchased 25 gun mounts. They were handed over to the army in July 2021 to replace the previous generation.
- The gun mount, thanks to its 52-caliber barrel, is capable of firing at a maximum distance of up to 41 kilometers. The turret is capable of turning 360 degrees, and thanks to automation, the number of crew members has been reduced from four to three.
- At the same time, the howitzer has an automatic loader that allows you to fire in MRSI mode – several missiles will hit the same target at the same time.
In total, it is planned that Slovakia will transfer 8 Zuzana 2 units to Ukraine. Head of the Office of the President Andriy Yermak has already reacted to the news. He confirmed that the self-propelled guns had reached Ukraine.
155-mm caliber for cleaning the territory of Ukraine from evil spirits with the tricolor, Yermak emphasized.
Defence assistance Ukraine: latest news
While the Kremlin is on fire with how much international partners support Ukraine, the Slovak Defense Minister said that Russian-made MiG-29 fighters would most likely be handed over to Ukraine. Bratislava is counting on monetary compensation from the European Union or military compensation from NATO.
At the end of August, Slovakia will land fighters and the Czech Republic and Poland will begin to protect the country's airspace. The reason for this step is the problems with the repair of fighters since the beginning of the Russian invasion.
It is not yet known when and how many units of fighters Ukraine will receive.
