On Wednesday, November 15, a Russian Il-20 flew near NATO borders. This is a reconnaissance aircraft, so allies and NATO countries responded.

NATO countries scrambled fighter jets because of the overflight of the Russian Il-20. This was reported by NATO Air Command on the social network X, formerly known as Twitter.

Details of NATO's response to the Il-20

The fighters were alerted as the Russian ship flew near Alliance airspace. Fighters from six countries took to the air at once: Estonia, Germany, Spain, Italy, Denmark and Sweden. They took off from Amari airfield in Estonia.

NATO indicated that this is the first joint alert raised by Germany and Spain. It confirms “close cooperation and integration between members of the Alliance.”
