Since the beginning of the year, based on the results of humanitarian demining, it was possible to return more than 200 thousand hectares of fertile land to economic exploitation.
This was stated by the head of the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine Yulia Sviridenko.
According to her, the pyrotechnicians of the State Emergency Service, the State Special Transport Service, and non-governmental mine action operators are demonstrating very good results.

Humanitarian demining in numbers:
- in winter, from 3 to 5 thousand hectares of agricultural land are inspected weekly in bad weather conditions;
- more than 200 thousand hectares of land out of 470 thousand hectares planned were returned to use.
The government and international partners are focused on mine clearance over the next 10 years. After all, in the end, up to 80% of the country’s contaminated areas must be returned to safe use.
According to regional military administrations, since the beginning of the year, more than 268,600 hectares have been cleared. Last week, explosives experts examined more than 5,000 hectares. Most of all — in the Kherson region — 3800 hectares, Forbes reports.
The cost of demining priority lands could be more than $1.5 billion. The estimated cost of a non-technical survey of 1 hectare — 5000-7000 UAH. In July, the Ministry of Economy announced that the allies intend to allocate $244 million to Ukraine for mine clearance needs.
According to Time, Ukraine will need about 757 years to completely clear mines.
