Since the beginning of the war, 7,000 people have been declared missing, only half have been found, – Ministry of Internal Affairs/AP
In just 2 months of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine, Ukrainian law enforcement agencies received more than 7,000 reports of disappearances.< /strong>
About half of the missing people have been found. However, others are still looking. In addition, many bodies of the dead remain unidentified.
So, law enforcement officers received about 2 thousand unrecognized bodies of the dead. Subsequently, 1282 dead were identified. But another 927 dead are to undergo DNA examinations.
The situation will worsen as the territories are liberated
The Ministry of Internal Affairs understands that the prospects are disappointing and there will be many unrecognized bodies in the liberated territories. Therefore, the ministry is already seeking help from partner countries and international organizations in order to arrange the supply of the necessary reagents and involve additional expert groups in investigations. There are also plans to create a unified register of missing persons.
The first steps have been taken
Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Mary Hakobyan met with the delegation of the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP), headed by the Director for Policy and Cooperation of the International Commission on Missing Persons Andreas Klaiser. The delegation included Head of the ICMP Data Coordination Department Edin H. Yasharagich and ICMP Legal Counsel Oleksandr Krasnoborov.
Mary Hakobyan briefed the audience on how the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine is conducting an investigation in the liberated Ukrainian territories, the work algorithms of the National Police, rescuers and other services and departments.
During the discussion, the meeting participants agreed to discuss several plans for cooperation, which can significantly enhance the capabilities of the expert service and investigative units of Ukraine. In a few weeks, a group of specialists will arrive in Kyiv, who will give specific advice and suggestions on identifying the victims of Russian aggression.
Help.ICMP has 25 years of experience in identifying missing persons for DNA in 40 countries around the world. The Commission cooperates with government departments, institutions that deal with missing persons, the International Criminal Court, Interpol and other intergovernmental organizations. By the way, it was the ICMP laboratory that carried out the examinations in the case of the sale of the MH-17 flight.
Victims of Russian aggression in Ukraine: what you need to know
- As of April 29, the UN confirmed 6,134 Ukrainian civilian casualties as a result of Russian aggression: 2,899 killed and 3,235 wounded.
- But even the organization acknowledges that the actual numbers are much higher as information from temporarily occupied territories and intense fighting is delayed. The UN is also awaiting confirmation of many reports. For example, this applies to Mariupol, Izyum and Popasna, where numerous civilian casualties are reported. Currently, these figures are not included in the above UN statistics.
- Note that, according to the Mariupol City Council, the Russians killed about 20,000 residents of the city. In order to hide their crimes, the infidels brought mobile crematoria there. Also, satellite images have already found 3 places of mass graves near Mariupol. The scale of the trenches is horrific.
- In addition, according to the OP, Russian infidels killed at least 219 children. Please note that this is only official and confirmed data.
- It is not yet possible to accurately calculate how many people died as a result of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. In the temporarily occupied territories and in those where active hostilities are taking place, this cannot be calculated. In addition, rescuers are still sorting through the rubble in the territories liberated from the invaders and continue to find bodies.
