The man was later arrested by local police on I-95.
This comes almost exactly two months after Trump was shot in the ear at a rally in Pennsylvania.
Minutes after news of the shooting broke, Sen. Lindsey Graham took to X (formerly Twitter) to praise the former president's resilience.
— Just spoke with President Trump. He is one of the strongest men I have ever known. He is in good spirits and more determined than ever to save our country, the senator wrote.
The West Palm Beach golf course is just a few miles from Mar-a-Lago, which Trump has dubbed his “winter White House”.
Shooting near Trump: US Secret Service launches investigation
The Secret Service, which has come under widespread criticism following the July assassination attempt, wrote on social media X that it is investigating the “protective incident” involving the former president, which occurred shortly before 2 p.m. local time. The agency said it is coordinating the investigation with the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.
Note that it was initially reported that two people were shooting at each other. However, according to sources, investigators now believe that only the Secret Service agent was the shooter.
