The shooting in Montenegro occurred on January 1 near the capital. The incident was reported by the media and the police.

What is known about the shooting in Montenegro

The scene of the incident is said to be Cetinje, one of the country's largest cities, the historical and cultural capital of Montenegro. It is only a 40-minute drive, or 37 kilometers, from here to the capital Podgorica.

Police said that on January 1 in Cetinje, a man started shooting in a bar and then ran away. Law enforcement said that he is 45 years old, his initials are A.M. Special forces were sent to search for the man.

State television RTCG provided more details. Journalists said that there was a fight in the bar before the shooting. The attacker went home to get a gun and returned to the bar, where he opened fire. There he killed and wounded several people. In “another place” he killed the children and wife of the bar owner.

According to media reports, the shooter is Ako Martinovic, who is “known for his erratic behavior and was arrested in the past for illegal possession of weapons.” His photo was even shown on television.

Information about the victims varies. The police say four were killed, the media – seven.

The Prime Minister of Montenegro visited the hospital where the wounded were taken. He declared three days of mourning, calling the shooting a terrible tragedy. He did not say how many people died.
