In Russia, the conflict between the military leadership is again brewing. This time between the head of the general staff of the aggressor country Valery Gerasimov and Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu.
The fact is that regular military personnel perceive the head of the Russian Defense Ministry as a pawn. Igor Romanenko, a military expert, retired lieutenant general and founder of the Let's Close the Sky of Ukraine Charitable Foundation, told Channel 24 about this.
We fought together against Prigozhin, and now against each other
Yes, Shoigu is a civilian who has reached the leadership of the Ministry of Defense. And the structure in Russia is that the General Staff is completely subordinate to the Ministry of Defense. In contrast to the NATO approach implemented in our country.
The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine performs military-political tasks. At the same time, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is engaged in purely military tasks and is subordinate to the Supreme Commander-in-Chief Volodymyr Zelensky in this.
There are many contradictions in the military structures of the aggressor countries. Recently, Shoigu, together with the head of the General Staff, fought together against Yevgeny Prigozhin and his company represented by Ramzan Kadyrov and Sergei Surovikin. In January, Shoigu and Gerasimov were defeated and Prigozhin's company was removed from the priorities that Vladimir Putin gave them.
Now, when they succeeded and they headed the leadership, the contradiction, which was there, has become aggravated. The military and the generals, whom Gerasimov selected and placed for 10 years in the General Staff and the leadership of the armed forces, perceive Shoigu as an upstart and a person who does not understand military affairs, but tries to lead. the lieutenant general remarked.

Hence all these external manifestations that we can observe. However, to a greater extent, these are only “cockroaches in the bank” and further their struggle will intensify. Moreover, the further the Armed Forces of Ukraine advance in the liberation of our territories, the more the political and military leadership in Russia will fall apart .
Conflicts in the military leadership of Russia are growing
- Analysts from the Institute for the Study of War believe that the likely trip of the head of the Russian Defense Ministry to the Donetsk region may indicate that the Kremlin does not trust the commander of the occupying forces, Valery Gerasimov.
- According to the report, the commanders of the Russian military districts report to Gerasimov on operational issues. At the same time, Shoigu's publicized visit to the Donbass appears to undermine Gerasimov's authority.
- In addition, Shoigu also has a conflict with the commander of the eastern military district, Rustam Muradov. So, in February 2023, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin awarded him the rank of Colonel General for his report on the “successes” of the 155th Marine Brigade in the Ugledar direction.
- Now, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Shoigu requires the general to work out his rank and take the city at any cost.
