Ukraine expects that the EU Council will approve the start of official negotiations on joining the European Union next week. Kyiv has implemented four recommendations previously put forward by the European Commission.
Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmygal announced this.
– Ukraine is rapidly moving into the EU. We expect that next week the European Council will make a final decision on the start of official negotiations on Ukraine’s membership in the European Union, — he emphasized.
Shmygal noted that the Verkhovna Rada and the Cabinet of Ministers have already implemented four recommendations that were identified in the November report of the European Commission.

In particular, the parliament today supported three European integration bills:
- on increasing the staff of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU);
- on expanding the powers of the NACP to verify assets received before appointment to the public service;
- regarding the rights of national minorities, “which takes into account expert assessments of the Council of Europe”.
Shmygal clarified that yesterday the government implemented the fourth recommendation of Brussels: adopted a bill on lobbying, which “takes into account the modern European approach and proposals civil society”.

8 November The European Commission recommended starting formal negotiations with Ukraine on EU membership.
At the same time, the EC report identified four additional steps-recommendations for Kyiv. They relate to: increasing the staff of NABU; eliminating restrictions on the powers of the NAPC; adoption of a law on lobbying; implementation of the recommendations of the Venice Commission on the Rights of National Minorities.
It was in pursuance of these recommendations that the bills adopted by the Verkhovna Rada and the Cabinet of Ministers were prepared.
