The Czech President emphasized the importance of supporting Ukraine.
Ukraine can receive the first batch of shells in the amount of 180 thousand within the framework of the Czech initiative already in June, and further deliveries will be much larger.
Czech President Petr Pavel announced this in an interview German TV channel ARD.
He stated that competition is constantly growing as more parties become aware of the Czech initiative. He stated that the initiative should have been discussed publicly, but “we have revealed our cards and Russia is taking advantage of it.”
“This is another reason why the initiative is not moving as quickly as we would like. Together with our Prime Minister Petr Fiala, I assume that the first 180 thousand units of ammunition will be delivered in June, and already there are contracts for a further six-figure number of shells,” said Pavel.
He stated that Ukraine, from the very beginning of the full-scale invasion, faced a shortage of weapons, but showed a fair amount of resilience.
Pavel noted that Russia is much stronger than Ukraine financially and industrially, however, according to the president, “we are approaching the moment when human resources and support among the Ukrainian population will increasingly become limiting factors.”
“In this situation – and I have been talking about this for a long time – it is important to support Ukraine in every possible way so that it can make it clear to the Russian aggressor that there is no point in continuing the war, that Russia will not achieve any further military successes. Because while Russia has at least some hope of success, it has no reason to conduct peace negotiations,” Pavel emphasized.
