She dedicated her victory to the people of Ukraine: Kichenok won the first WTA doubles tournament in 2024

Ukrainian tennis player Lyudmila Kichenok in a duet with Latvian Elena Ostapenko won the first trophy in the new season.

In the final of the WTA 500 doubles tournament in Brisbane, Australia, they beat the Belgian-British duo Gret Minnen and Gezer Watson with a score of 7:5, 6:2.

The tennis players spent 1 hour and 21 minutes on the court, during which Kichenok and Ostapenko served three times, converted four out of seven break points and made four double faults.

For Lyudmila Kichenok this is the third doubles title together with Ostapenko. Previously, they won the WTA 1000 tournament in Cincinnati, America, and the WTA 250 category competition in Birmingham, England in 2022.

In general, this is the ninth doubles title in Kichenok’s career.

Recall that in 2023 she, paired with Croatian Mate Pavic, won Wimbledon in mixed doubles. She became the second Grand Slam champion from Ukraine in history.
