Severing ties between countries: DPRK cuts power lines on border with South Korea Polina Buyanova

North Korea has cut power lines installed by South Korea to supply electricity to a closed joint industrial park in the North Korean border city of Kaesong.

This was reported by Channel 24, citing Yonhap. It is worth noting that the DPRK also previously blew up parts of its roads that connect it with South Korea.

What is happening on the border of the DPRK and South Korea

South Korean military saw how DPRK soldiers dismantled part of the power lines connecting the supports built along the Gyeonggui road.

At the same time, according to officials, the DPRK has not yet demolished the already inoperative power line supports.

It is noted that South Korea has built 48 power line supports, in particular 15 in the north, to provide electricity to the Kaesong industrial complex, which is now closed. However, electricity supplies to the city of Kaesong were cut off in June 2020 when North Korea blew up an inter-Korean liaison office on the premises of the complex.

By the way, DPRK leader Kim Jong-un had previously stated that the situation on the Korean Peninsula had reached a dangerous level that threatened to unleash a nuclear conflict.
