Several Russian A-50s constantly fly over Ukraine: what does the loss of one of them mean?

For days at the military airfield “Machulishchi” in Belarus, a Russian military aircraft A-50 was damaged due to explosions. The same aircraft constantly flies over Ukraine. The destruction of at least one such aircraft is a huge loss for Russia.

Aviation expert Konstantin Krivolap spoke about this on Channel 24 . According to him, Russia may transfer several more A-50 aircraft to Ukraine in order to control the situation before the missile attack.

The destruction of at least one A-50 is a big loss for Russia

Krivolap noted that periodically enemy A-50 aircraft fly over the territory of Ukraine. But the Russians cannot transfer all the planes here, because they carry out aerial reconnaissance on them and at other objects.

They (the Russians – Channel 24) need to make aerial reconnaissance flights over the North Sea. They are terribly worried about their ships. They also need to fly in the area of the Baltic countries, to observe what is happening there, – he believes.

Therefore, the aviation expert is convinced that the destruction of at least one A-50 aircraft is a huge loss for Russia.

On the other hand, as Konstantin Kryvolap suggested, the occupiers are likely to accumulate missile potential for another massive shelling of Ukraine.

What are the capabilities of the A-50

Konstantin Krivolap noted that the media write: Russian A-50s can see at a distance of 500 kilometers, consider targets up to 250-275 kilometers.

“Now they can view the entire territory of Ukraine with one plane. But they cannot see in detail. There is a picture, but it is still blurry,” the aviation expert added.

Incident in Machulishchi on A-50: briefly

  • On the morning of February 26, two explosions thundered at the Machulishchi airfield, located 12 kilometers from Minsk. As a result, one Russian A-50 military transport aircraft was damaged.
  • Activists reported that Belarusian partisans claimed responsibility for the incident. The explosions at the airfield in the village of Machulishchi involved two drones manufactured by DJI, converted into kamikaze drones in a “handicraft” way. It was they who caused damage to the Russian military aircraft A-50.
  • The Russian reconnaissance aircraft A-50, attacked by a drone, did not return to the Machulishchi airfield after takeoff. At the same time, Belarusian propagandists claim that the plane allegedly accompanied Alexander Lukashenko on board.
  • Andrey Yusov, a spokesman for the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Defense Ministry, said that Russia is not yet able to produce A-50 radar aircraft, one of which was probably damaged at the Belarusian airport in Machulishchi.
