Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's visit to Washington and his triumphant speech in the US Congress recorded the result obtained at the previous NATO summit in Bucharest .
There, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg stated the unshakable support of Ukraine by the West, because while partners are paying for this war with money, Ukrainians are paying with blood. And if suddenly Ukraine does not resist, this terrible price will have to be paid by Europeans and Americans. Andrey Piontkovsky, a Russian opposition publicist from the USA, spoke about this on Channel 24.According to him, Zelensky's visit to the United States recorded the understanding of the West that Ukraine is fighting for him and only a victory for Ukraine can ensure his security.
But the significance of the visit of the Ukrainian president to Washington does not end there. Piontkovsky noted that he had shown that a serious problem remained in relations with the West. The fact is that there are no questions or complaints about the political position of our partners and their statements demonstrating steady support.
However, there are questions about the implementation of this political support. After all, the peace plan can only be realized through adequate and necessary supplies of weapons to achieve the goal.
At the press conference of Biden and Zelensky, it became clear that there were still gaps when a Ukrainian journalist asked the US president whether there would be long-range ATACMS missiles were handed over to Ukraine, because almost all important weapons – Javelin, Stinger, HIMARS, Patriot and others – went from “under no circumstances can not be transferred, because this will provoke Russia to escalate” to the actual receipt by Ukraine.
Piontkovsky said that it was a very good question – Biden first tried to laugh it off, but then very slowly and unconvincingly justified himself.
This shows that this confrontation between two different points of view on supporting Ukraine in the Biden administration has not yet been fully completed . And although after any transfer of the announced weapons, it seemed that “the line of Blinken and Austin finally defeated the line of Sullivan, and the formula “we want Ukraine to win” defeated the formula “we do not want to allow Ukraine to lose”, this is still not the case.
Remnants of this second position are still there. But from a global standpoint, the understanding of the role of Ukraine as the most active member of NATO, the West cannot go further. This is the solution to the problem of his safety. Based on this position, the West cannot continue to impose restrictions,” Piontkovsky emphasized.
He added that in this way, Zelensky’s visit to Washington has 3 conclusions:
- fixing the fundamental political support for Ukraine,
- exposing the problem of the unconvincingness of Biden's current position, which, however, opens up the possibility of pressure to change this position,
- identification of the threat to Ukraine and public opinion in the United States by the pro-Putin group in the American political circles, which leads 50 Trumpist Republicans.
What's wrong with the Trumpists
- While the majority of American Republicans support Ukraine and provide it with the necessary weapons to fight the Russian aggressor, some part of the party, namely the Trumpists, launched a “hate program” against our state.
- Trumpists criticize Biden for helping Ukraine and accuse him of leading the world to the Third World War. This is what makes Biden justify himself and continue to think about the “escalation of the war”.
- It is the rhetoric of the Trumpists that slows down the supply of weapons to Ukraine, including the provision of our military ATACMS missiles for HIMARS.
