In the spring of 2022, Poland investigated a possible assassination attempt on President Andrzej Duda and the Chief of the General Staff of the country's Armed Forces.

At the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Poland was investigating a possible assassination attempt on Andrzej Duda and General Raymund Andrzejczak. Polish journalist Zbigniew Parafianowicz spoke about this in his book Polska na wojnie (“Poland at War”).

Details of the incident

On March 25, Andrzej Duda and General Raimund Andrzejczak flew to Rzeszow to meet with US President Joe Biden. However, at some point their Boeing 737-800 NG plane had to make an emergency landing. This despite the fact that the board was new.

Passengers claim they came close to death due to a trim malfunction – forcing pilots to wrestle with the controls to land safely. After landing, the delegation transferred to another plane.

Then, the possibility of sabotage or attempted murder was considered as one of the probable causes of the malfunction.

Let us recall that in 2010, a Polish government plane carrying Polish President Lech Kaczynski and top officials of the country crashed in Russia.

The main thing about the death of Kaczynski in Russia

  • On April 10, 2010, Polish Tu-154M aircraft No. 101 crashed near Smolensk in Russia while carrying a Polish delegation flying to Katyn to honor the victims of the executed Polish prisoners of war in 1940.
  • Among the victims were the presidential spouses Kaczynski, his wife, the country's military command, politicians, as well as public and religious figures – all died. In total, 96 people died in the plane crash – 88 passengers and 8 crew members.
  • In 2018, the commission found the remains of explosives. In 2020, Poland requested the arrest of three air traffic controllers who were then on duty at Smolensk-Severny airport, but Russia refused to extradite them.
  • The investigation into the case continues.
