Vucic called the conversation “good, open, long and meaningful.”

On Sunday, October 20, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic called Russian President Vladimir Putin on the phone for the first time since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

He announced this in a video published on the YouTube channel of the SNS publication.

The reason for the phone call to the Kremlin dictator was the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belgrade by the Red Army and Yugoslav units during World War II.

Vucic called the conversation “good, open, long and meaningful.” The Serbian president expressed “hope” that his country would not impose sanctions on Russia and thanked Putin for Russia's support for “Serbia's territorial integrity” at the UN, referring to Russia's non-recognition of Kosovo's independence.

Vucic separately noted that he thanked Putin for ensuring gas supplies from Russia this winter.

He did not mention whether the war in Ukraine was discussed.

Recall that earlier, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic assured that his country is not Moscow's “Trojan horse” in Europe. At the same time, he claimed that he had not communicated with President Vladimir Putin for 2.5 years.
