President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky signed law No. 11079-1 on the mobilization of convicts. For people who are in prison and express a desire to be mobilized into the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, they plan to create separate units.
The Minister of Justice announced this on the air of the One News telethon Denis Malyuska.
Mobilization of convicts in Ukraine
— The legislation contains certain guarantees that will ensure that the implementation of the law is effective. In particular, this is not only a voluntary, that is, contract form of service, but also the creation of separate units where those who have been released from prison will serve. So that there is no different approach, so that someone, suddenly leaving prison, does not end up in the “Uzhgorod cauldron”, not fulfilling his military duty, — explained the minister.
He noted that such mobilized could carry out tasks not related to the use of weapons. For example, build fortifications.

— Modern army — It's not just about shooting from a machine gun. This is a lot of physical work that does not require the use of weapons 24/7. I think that such units can carry out work to build infrastructure, engineering structures, and protective structures. Our military digs a lot, and I think our “pets” can give odds to many military — he said.
As you know, on May 8 the Verkhovna Rada adopted in its entirety bill No. 11079-1 on the mobilization of convicts.
