Separate detachments: the Ministry of Justice told where former prisoners will serve

Ukrainian prisoners who have shown a desire to serve in the Ukrainian Defense Forces will be attracted to assault units, where their personnel will form separate detachments.

The head of the Ministry of Justice Denis Malyuska spoke about this on air at the national telethon Unified News.

Where the prisoners will serve

According to Malyusk, prisoners who have previously served sentences will be recruited into the Defense Forces, from whom monolithic units will be created. According to the Minister, this will happen without “mixing with others” units.

— We have not yet reached the point of conducting combat operations with these units, preparations are underway. Perhaps the situation will change, and the choice regarding mixing or not mixing will change in the other favor, — says the minister.

He also said that 613 prisoners have already joined the Defense Forces and are now undergoing military training.

According to Malyuska, the Ministry of Justice monitors that during this process all legal requirements for the treatment of prisoners are observed.

Mobilization of prisoners

Recall that on May 17, President Vladimir Zelensky signed a bill on the mobilization of convicts, which provides for the possibility of recruiting into the Defense Forces those prisoners who were sentenced to restriction or imprisonment on light charges.

At the same time, persons who have committed premeditated murder, rape, sexual violence or crimes against the fundamentals of national security will not be mobilized into the troops. Also, corrupt officials will not be recruited into the army.
