Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg named the reason why it created a threat to European security. According to the head of the Austrian Foreign Ministry, the danger comes from the aggressive war that Russia started in Ukraine.

Schallenberg stressed that it is very important to have unity and cohesion of the European Union on the issue of war against Ukraine. After all, peace throughout Europe directly depends on this.

Schallenberg stressed that everyone in Europe wants peace, and the people in Ukraine most of all. However, according to the minister, all this lies in the hands of only one person – Vladimir Putin.

He can end the war tomorrow. If he does this, the war will end,” said the head of the Austrian Foreign Ministry.

At the same time, he emphasized that if Ukraine stops fighting, then it will be finished. The minister also stressed that there can be “no negotiations on Ukraine without Ukraine.”

Schallenberg also assured that the European Union is alone in the fact that the greatest danger to the unification is posed by an aggressive Russian war. He stressed that consensus on this issue was the EU's greatest achievement and asset.

“And I believe that we are doing everything right and must work to ensure that this unity and cohesion is maintained in the future,” he said.

The minister concluded by saying that the EU needs to be aware that “we are being watched internationally.” Therefore, the position of the Western world also “very much depends on our behavior in this matter.”

Earlier, the head of the Austrian Foreign Ministry defended Russia in the OSCE.

  • Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg emphasized that he considers it correct that Russia was invited to the meeting of OSCE member states. According to the head of the Austrian Foreign Ministry, full-fledged negotiations allegedly cannot be held without the role of a Russian representative.
  • The Austrian diplomat also said that he was personally ready to communicate with a representative of the aggressor country. Thus, he continued to pursue the line that Europe “should not completely break off relations with Russia.”
  • Schallenberg previously said that Russia is “valuable” to Europe. Therefore, a complete severance of ties with the aggressor country in all areas is supposedly illusory.
