In Slovakia, the Smer-SD party won the early parliamentary elections. Its head, Robert Fico, said that he would do everything possible for “peaceful negotiations” between Ukraine and Russia.

The success of the Smer-SD party in the elections in Slovakia was viewed with skepticism in Ukraine. Party leader Robert Fico, with his first statement on the war after the victory, proved that the Ukrainians were not mistaken.

He says he will do “everything” for “peace”

Fico stressed that his position on Ukraine has not changed. Let us recall that he:

  • advocates the suspension of military assistance to Ukraine;
  • against Ukraine’s membership in NATO;
  • promised to extend the ban on Ukrainian agricultural imports.< /li>

The politician said that he is ready to provide humanitarian assistance to our state, but is strongly opposed to any assistance with weapons.

Moreover, he stated that he would do everything to stimulate negotiations between Ukraine and Russia.

If Smer is offered to form a government… I will do everything, including within the European Union “so that peace negotiations begin as soon as possible,” Fico emphasized.

In addition, the party member cynically noted that Slovakia and its people have more problems than in Ukraine.

Who is Robert Fico

Former Prime Minister of Slovakia with pro-Russian and anti-Ukrainian views. Leader of the center-left party called Course – Social Democracy (Smer – sociální demokracia or Smer-SD). He opposed the transfer of MiG-29 aircraft to Ukraine from Slovakia. He spread Kremlin narratives and lied that the war in Donbass in 2014 was supposedly started not by Moscow, but by “Ukrainian fascists.”

Orban and his latest statements

    < li>One of those who rejoiced at Fico’s victory was Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, known for his statements that are very reminiscent of theses from the Kremlin manual. The last time a politician forgot the size of Ukraine. He cynically stated that Ukraine cannot be accepted into the EU until “territorial issues” are resolved. The Foreign Ministry told him that Ukraine has not changed its borders since 1991.
  • Orban also said that his country will not support Ukraine until it “stops the oppression of ethnic Hungarians.”
  • Previously, the prime minister allowed himself such statements as “Putin is not a war criminal” and “Ukraine is not a sovereign state.”
