Rinsing with iodine-containing solutions can reduce the concentration of conoravirus in saliva, but this is unlikely to lead to massive false PCR test results. This was warned by an expert in the field of virology and epidemiology Tetsuo Kase from the Graduate School of Medicine at Osaka University, RIA Novosti reports.
So the specialist reacted to the words of the governor of Osaka, Hirofumi Yoshimura, that rinsing with special solutions containing iodine significantly reduces the concentration of the virus in human saliva. However, the expert believes that mass falsification of coronavirus tests is hardly possible. The specialist connects this with the fact that the statements of prominent people on medical or other high-profile topics for the sake of their image are usually forgotten quite quickly.
In his statement, the governor cited data from a study that involved two groups of people who tested positive for the coronavirus. The first group rinsed the mouth and throat with iodine-containing solutions for four days, and the other with plain water. As a result, the number of people who tested positive for COVID-19 dropped to 9.5 percent, and the number of people who rinsed with water fell to only 40 percent.
However, the study did not indicate any data on the effectiveness of rinsing with other types of antiseptics. Moreover, after the governor's speech, many scientists warned about the dangers of uncontrolled use of iodine solutions for pregnant women and people with thyroid diseases.
