In early September, the far-right sensationally won the state elections in Thuringia and took second place in Saxony. In Brandenburg, Scholz's party managed to retain its leadership.

“Alternative for Germany” actively opposes aid to Ukraine and is openly pro-Russian. On September 1, it became the first far-right party to win a state election in Germany since World War II.

According to forecasts from the ARD and ZDF television channels, the Social Democratic Party of Germany will win the local elections in the federal state of Brandenburg by a slight margin.

Thus, Scholz's party receives from 31 to 32 percent, ahead of the far-right “Alternative for Germany”, which has 29 – 30 percent support. Next, 12 percent of the votes were received by the “Sara Wagenknecht Alliance”, 11.5 – 12 percent – “Christian Democratic Union”, the Greens have 4.5 – 5 percent of the votes.

The chairman of the SPD in Brandenburg and the current state premier Dietmar Woidke, who has a high personal rating, threatened to resign if his party loses to the “Alternative for Germany.”
