German Chancellor Olaf Scholz plans to meet with US President Joe Biden in Washington. Germany's engagement with the United States is now much more effective than in previous years.
This was told to Channel 24 by international expert, candidate of political sciences Bogdan Ferens. According to him, the meeting will discuss the possible deliveries of Ukrainian aircraft, but everything will depend on the situation at the front in the spring.
Germany's landmarks have shifted
Bogdan Ferens recalled that Germany's position was different from the United States, and relations between the countries were tense. This was under the leadership of Angela Merkel and Donald Trump against the background of Europe's increasing dependence on energy from Russia.
“Now we see that the situation has changed dramatically and the United States is now one of the most important suppliers of liquefied gas to European countries. Therefore, here the dependence of both Europe and Germany in the context of NATO and the United States in confronting Russia has increased,” Ferens said.

Now NATO is a key association that corresponds to the risks and threats that are emerging in the world, and therefore the rapprochement of the positions of Germany and the United States is quite natural.
What to do with China
Bohdan Ferens said that, as a rule, Ukraine's partners are more determined to supply Ukraine with weapons in the event of an escalation, and when the situation is more or less stabilized, decisions are delayed in time.
The international expert believes that the issue of interaction with China will be discussed at the meeting with Scholz with Biden, since Scholz made a visit to China, for which he was strongly criticized.
Then the Germans had an understanding that they needed to communicate with Xi Jinping and try to leave this communication window in order to prevent even greater rapprochement between China and Russia, Ferens said.
He is confident that the topic of the threat from China will be key between Germany and the United States.
