Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholzdeclared his readiness to negotiate with Russia regarding a just peace in Ukraine. We are talking about negotiations directly with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.

He said this during a speech to members of the Bundestag.

In his speech in the German parliament, Scholz recalled that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called for another peace conference with Russia's participation.

He said that if the German side is asked, it will also “talk to the Russian president”.

— Now is the time when — In addition to clearly supporting Ukraine, — we also need to do everything we can to figure out how we can make sure this war doesn't go on forever, — said Scholz.

It is unacceptable, Scholz said, that “so many women and men continue to die in Ukraine, victims of Russian bombs and missiles.” He also called Russian soldiers “victims” Putin's imperialist madness.

In parliament, Scholz also stressed that no decisions would ever be made behind Ukraine's back and without coordination with its closest partners.

The Chancellor assured Ukraine of continued support from Germany and its Western allies. He added that Kyiv's allies must “send a clear signal that Ukraine can rely on, and a clear signal that the Russian president cannot ignore”.

In early October, German media reported that Scholz was considering calling Putin for the first time in almost two years. It was noted that the conversation could take place on the eve of the G20 meeting in Brazil, which will take place in November.
