Why there is a shortage of salt in Ukraine/Collage 24 channel
Salt deficiency has been recorded in Ukraine for several days. Finding this product on store shelves is not easy.
At the same time, when there is salt in the store, the price for it is radically different from the old one. Read about why this happened in the material of Channel 24.
Why Ukraine has a shortage of salt
90% of salt in Ukraine was mined by the State Enterprise “Artyomsol” in the city of Soledar, Donetsk region. Due to active hostilities and constant shelling, the manufacturer stopped its work a month ago.
The enterprise does not work until an indefinite time according to the order. Shelling continues constantly, the administrative building is partially destroyed, there were hits in the mines. Most of the residents of Soledar, the employees of the Artyomsol enterprise, are being evacuated, – said Vladimir Nizienko, head of the Artyomsol press service.
That is, until it becomes safe in the region, salt will not be mined there.
Note that the company produces 2 million tons of salt per year. It is sold not only in Ukraine, but is exported to 15 countries of the world. Among them are Poland, Moldova, Azerbaijan, Romania, Georgia, Germany and others. That is, the deficit may be not only in Ukraine.
Pay attention! In April, the stock of salt was removed from the enterprise and distributed to retail chains throughout Ukraine. Judging by the shortage, stores have almost exhausted this supply.
Artyomsol says that after the end of hostilities, production can be quickly resumed. The salt deposits are located deep underground, so they should not be affected. Of course, if Russian infidels do not decide to destroy them on purpose.
The prices for the product have already increased
Ukrainians complain that finding salt in stores is a real quest. Due to the hype, some sellers even hang signs on the door stating that there is no salt on sale.

The shortage of the product also arose because some people decided to stock up because of panic. Customers see salt in the store and accept several packages at once. Accordingly, the rest are left without salt.
In this situation, unscrupulous sellers also decided to cash in. So, earlier a kilogram of salt cost about 10 hryvnias, but now the prices have been raised 9 times in some places. In particular, salt for 95 hryvnias was noticed in a store in Mostysk, Lviv region.

By the way, netizens are already creating a meme about selling salt for an apartment in Kyiv. Ukrainians joke that now salt can only be exchanged for fuel.
Important!Salt shortage will affect the chemical industry the most. After all, salt is involved in the production of soda, chlorine, sodium hydroxide, hydrochloric acid, paint products and chemicals used to make paper and glass. The food industry is also experiencing inconvenience.
Where Ukraine will get salt
Salt production in Ukraine, except for “Artyomsol” and “Slavyanskaya Sol” LLC, is also in the Donetsk region , two more deposits are being developed – Solotvinskoe in Transcarpathia and the Drohobych saltworks. The first has dried up badly due to frequent floods. Therefore, the Drohobych saltworks remained virtually the only salt producer in Ukraine. She plans to increase production by 20,000 tons per month, but this is not enough even to satisfy the needs of the Lviv region.
Ordinary salt could be replaced by sea salt. However, Russia occupied sources with high-quality sea salts. Therefore, most likely, now Ukraine will have to buy salt abroad.
