— This was the first such sabotage operation using artillery forces. The successful, high-quality, sabotage training of the SBU together with the artillerymen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is an example of the fact that together — we are strength. She contributed to the defense of the Kiev region. We repulsed the enemy, and he was forced to retreat from the territory of Ukraine, — emphasized the Chairman of the SBU Vasily Malyuk.
The enemy's rear control point was located in the village of Polesskoye. In TPU, in particular, the leadership of the Russian troops that were advancing on Kyiv was located. The occupiers also stored a large amount of equipment, ammunition and fuel nearby.
To carry out the operation, SBU special forces quietly delivered artillery to the so-called gray zone, close to Russian positions.
The initiative for this operation came from the brigadier general with the call sign Hunter, who belongs to the military counterintelligence of the SBU. As noted in the film, only three people knew about the main plan of the operation — Hunter himself, brigadier general and chief of staff OK West Vladimir Gorbatyuk and the current head of the SBU Vasily Malyuk, who At the time of the operation, Denis Monastyrsky was still in the position of Deputy Head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.
As Gorbatyuk noted, at the time of the operation the task seemed adventurous and provocative to him.
— My artillerymen did not like it, because it was an unconventional and non-standard use of artillery forces and means, to put it mildly… Hunter's proposal to move artillery forces and assets closer to the line of contact (it was directly the so-called gray zone, even behind the front line of contact) — it was quite adventurous. Adventurous in the sense that, according to all governing documents, artillery is used no closer than 5 km to the front line, — he explains.
Brigadier General Hunter says that “world history has not yet seen heavy 152mm artillery conduct sabotage raids” and notes that this is simply not a function of these tools.
