The Iranian frigate Sahand sank under water in the port of Bandar Abbas. The warship was 12 years old.

Why the ship completely sank

7 July an accident occurred in the port of Bandar Abbas and the ship Sahand partially went under water. However, preliminary information indicates that the complete sinking of the destroyer was due to “technical failures” during repairs.

Among other reasons, poor maintenance or a parking accident have been cited. Additionally, they indicate possible sabotage. It is worth noting that Iranian frigates are actively operating in the Red Sea and helping the Houthis attack merchant ships. It was in the Red Sea that Sahand was from time to time.

What is known about the destroyer Sahand

Sahand is Iran's indigenous frigate, based on the British-designed Vosper Mark 5. This type of ship is well upgraded with the latest radars. The destroyer carried 4-8 medium-range air defense missiles and double the number of anti-ship missiles.
