“Our goal is to support Ukraine in its struggle today so that it can enjoy lasting peace in the future. We support Ukraine in its quest for peace and will continue to support Ukraine on its irreversible path to NATO membership,” Rutte said.
He recalled the presence of President Volodymyr Zelensky at the summit and stressed that the main message of the summit was constant support for Ukraine and the Ukrainian people.
In particular, we are talking about the commitments already made in the amount of €35 billion in aid.
At the NATO summit in The Hague, the leaders of member states committed to spending 5% of GDP annually on defense and security needs by 2035.
The declaration also contains a line promising continued support for Ukraine, noting that its “security contributes to our security.”
