Russia's dependence on China is growing: why Beijing has become more active in the issue of war in Ukraine

China has become more active in the issue of Russia's war against Ukraine. On the one hand, he proposed his “peace plan” to end the war, and on the other hand, he is thinking about supplying weapons to the aggressor country.

Today, China has reached a position where it can compete for global leadership with the United States. This was told to Channel 24 by international expert and professor of the Department of International Relations of the National Aviation University Maxim Yali.

Why Beijing has become more active in the issue of war in Ukraine

And this happened due to the fact that it is part of this world, since the US and the EU are the largest markets for the sale of Chinese products. In addition, China has made tremendous progress in cooperation with the West, in particular in the economy, politics and science and technology.

Therefore, earning several million dollars on Russian arms supplies is not worth it to be subject to sanctions, which, of course, will be imposed by the West if Beijing goes for it.

There is only one logical answer here – the political ambitions of Chinese leader Xi Jinping, who has not yet abandoned the idea of returning Taiwan by military means, the international expert suggested.

Last year, during Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taiwan, we could see all these exercises and saber-rattling from China. At the same time, Western and Chinese media are now reporting that Beijing may try to take over Taiwan in 2027.

China-Taiwan conflict

The conflict between China and Taiwan began in 1949, after a long civil war, the Communist Party led by Mao Zedong came to power. Beijing does not recognize Taiwan as an independent state, but considers it as part of its territory. Hence, uses economic and political pressure to force Taiwan into submission. At the same time, Taiwan is striving to maintain its independence and democracy by strengthening its military and economic power. The conflict between China and Taiwan is creating tension in the region, and the world community is watching the developments and trying to help find a peaceful solution to this conflict.

In this context, if Russia completely loses the war and fulfills the “peace formula” of Vladimir Zelensky, in particular, retreats to the borders of 1991, that is, even loses what it seized in 2014-2015, then this puts an end to China's likely plans for military takeover of Taiwan. way.

China benefits from the weakening of Russia

However, Beijing has not yet made an appropriate decision to provide the aggressor country with weapons. It is likely that common sense will prevail.

In general, for China, the weakening of Russia also brings huge benefits. – noted the international expert.

Thus, the Chinese have a good historical memory and have not forgotten about the territories that the aggressor country appropriated in 1917. According to Yali, this is the perception that a significant part of the Chinese elite has.

In addition, Russia's dependence on China is increasing. Yes, everything is going according to Beijing's plan and it is gradually absorbing the aggressor country economically.

As for the information about China's likely attempt to take back Taiwan by military means, perhaps now this topic is gaining publicity in order to make it impossible even Xi Jinping's views on this.
