What Cavoli Says About the War/US Department of Defense

Christopher Cavoli said that Russia is suffering losses at the front, but the Kremlin is studying, improving and implementing the experience of war.

The Supreme Commander of the US Armed Forces in Europe, General Christopher Cavoli, said in an interview with Der Spiegel that NATO must be prepared. The North Atlantic Alliance also needs armed forces that can resist this.

What Cavoli says about the war

At the end of the war in Ukraine, no matter how it looks, the Russian army will be stronger than it is today. These forces will be on the border of our Alliance. They are commanded by the same people who already perceive us as enemies and will then be very angry about how the war went, Cavoli said.

According to him, the EU will have an opponent with real skills, mass numbers and a clear intent.

“That is why we must be prepared and need armed forces that can counter this,” Cavoli said.

He added that Russia is now a permanent threat to NATO and security throughout Europe, because Moscow is increasingly playing with China and North Korea. This makes it a global problem, a completely new dynamic.

Christopher Cavoli assured that the threat is now very serious. He says that:

  • It is better to describe how acute this is in relation to NATO;
  • The alliance must have more capabilities than the enemy.

“Therefore, we must quickly implement the requirements that follow from the defense plans. When I say quickly, I mean that we must be faster than the Russians. Only then can we deter them,” the commander explained.
